Aluminum Induction Furnace

In order to protect the coil of Aluminum induction furnace from dust and metal splashes, its outer casing is covered with a so-called coil sheath, consisting of flexible ceramic plates or glass fiber cloth. These materials allow water permeability, first of all so as not to affect the drying process after the new refractory material is rammed, and mainly to allow cooling water to flow out unimpeded in an emergency when the coil is damaged.

Due to insulation technology reasons, the voltage of this high-performance coil of Aluminum induction furnace is limited to about 3 kV. The current load on the copper profile of the above-mentioned coil tube is limited on the supply line by the permissible current density, which is about 15 kA.

This results in a maximum possible apparent power of 45 MVA for the furnace, which is near electrical class 8 and is not sufficient to achieve the required power output of up to 18 MW. This problem is solved by multiple high-power coil segments assembled in the coreless induction furnace to form an integrated high-power unit.

As an alternative, there are multi-conductor coils with staggered conductors operating in parallel. It consists of two to four parallel conductors, with only one upper and one lower coil end for Aluminum induction furnace.
