Characteristics of Medium-Frequency Coreless Furnace

The rectifier-parallel variable-frequency power supply of Industrial induction furnace can automatically adapt to the corresponding changes in current, voltage, and frequency of the charge load near the coil. Therefore, the variable-frequency power supply can operate at nearly 100% full power throughout the melting cycle. On the one hand, a medium-frequency furnace can use a whole-batch cold charge charging mode, tapping the entire furnace each time without leaving residual molten iron, while not affecting the progress of the melting process.

Secondly, in Industrial induction furnace of the same volume, because the frequency is higher, the input power can be several times higher than that of a mains-frequency furnace. This brings the following technical advantages:

Arbitrary alloy changes. Since the medium-frequency furnace empties the furnace body at each tap, the new chemical composition of the subsequent charge can be adjusted arbitrarily.

Use of wet and greasy charge materials. When charging into a hot empty furnace, the moisture brought in evaporates before the charge melts. The subsequent charge, if put in promptly, can be ensured to sink into the molten iron at the furnace bottom. This method means that charge materials with wet surfaces can also be directly charged into the electric furnace, whereas for mains-frequency furnaces that use residual molten iron, pre-drying treatment is required for safety.

Lower holding power consumption of Industrial induction furnace. For relatively long shutdowns, such as weekends, the medium-frequency furnace can be emptied without consuming holding power. In addition, due to the high power density, the volume is smaller than that of a mains-frequency furnace at the same power, so heat loss is also relatively small. Therefore, in general, the thermal efficiency of a Industrial induction furnace is much higher than that of a mains-frequency furnace.

Mains-Frequency Coreless Electric Furnace

The main characteristics of the mains-frequency coreless electric furnace lie in its low power density and its inability to operate at full power during cold furnace startup. As an example of a mains-frequency furnace, a 24 t mains-frequency furnace with a power of 4100 kW is used for steel casting melting with lump charge materials. In the initial stage, because the current penetration depth in the cold steel charge is relatively high, the electric furnace operates at almost full power. Once the charge exceeds the Curie point temperature, the power falls back to a level corresponding to the bulk density of the charge. As the molten steel level rises, the charge density increases, and the power rises accordingly, until the furnace within the coil working section is completely filled with molten steel, at which point the power rises again to the set value. Therefore, the average power is only 62.5% of the rated power.
